American Cranberry Viburnum
- Height: 10 to 12 feet
- Spread: 10 to 12 feet
- Light preference: Full sun to partial shade
The American cranberry viburnum (Viburnum trilobum) is a deciduous shrub with three-lobed leaves that turn red-purple in fall, white flowers in late spring, and bright red berries that persist into winter. It grows 8-12 feet tall and wide, thrives in USDA zones 2-7, and prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. Regular watering and early spring fertilizing are needed. It is ideal for hedges, screens, or specimen planting, attracting birds and pollinators. Prune after flowering and mulch to conserve moisture. Berries are edible and can be used in jellies and sauces.
