Hellebore (Helleborus spp.) is a shade-loving perennial renowned for its early-blooming, cup-shaped flowers that appear in late winter to early spring, often when little else is flowering. The blooms come in a variety of colors, including white, green, pink, purple, and deep maroon, sometimes with striking speckles or edges, and are held above evergreen or semi-evergreen foliage. Hellebores thrive in partial to full shade with well-drained, humus-rich soil and are valued for their long-lasting flowers, low maintenance, and ability to naturalize in woodland gardens or shaded borders. They are also deer-resistant, making them an excellent choice for low-care, ornamental plantings.
