Henry’s Garnet Sweetspire (Itea virginica ‘Henry’s Garnet’) is a deciduous shrub native to the eastern United States, prized for its fragrant, arching white flower spikes that bloom in late spring to early summer. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and is especially tolerant of moist to wet soils, making it ideal for rain gardens and naturalized areas. Growing 3–6 feet tall with a slightly wider spread, it forms a dense, mounding habit. Beyond its blooms, it is renowned for its outstanding fall foliage, turning deep shades of red, burgundy, and purple that persist well into the season. Low-maintenance and adaptable, it is an excellent choice for borders, mass plantings, and erosion control.
