Japanese Stewartia (Stewartia pseudocamellia) is an elegant ornamental tree prized for its beautiful white, camellia-like flowers, attractive foliage, and distinctive exfoliating bark. The blossoms appear in early to midsummer, adding fresh seasonal color when many other flowering trees have finished blooming. Its green leaves develop brilliant shades of red, orange, and burgundy in fall, while the peeling bark reveals a striking patchwork of gray, reddish-brown, and cream tones for year-round interest. With its graceful, pyramidal-to-rounded form, Japanese Stewartia makes an excellent specimen tree for gardens, entryways, woodland borders, or mixed landscape plantings.
